I have recently just watched the new PPG Special and well I want to say that it was quite good. I have had doubts at the start when they announced the special back in 2013, but I was really impressed how the special turned out. They kept their original personalities from the original show as well. Blossom is still the know it all leader of the three, Buttercup is still the tough tomboy, and Bubbles is still the bubbly cute one.
The Good:
The Special itself started off really quite well with Tom Kenny doing his bit as the Narrator from the show. The animation was quite lovely as well. It was colorful like the original and it felt like it would almost match the new TMNT that airs on Nickelodeon. There was some great funny moments in the special and Mojo's plan in the end was quite the "What?" moment.
The Bad:
Well I would mostly have to say that the special did have me confused at the start as well. The moment that had me question the special was Bubbles having Ice Breath. I was quite confused at this mostly to the fact only Blossom was known to have Ice Breath back in the original PPG show. The other that got me confused was about the Professor wanting to be a dancer.... when he arrived in Townsville. I was like "Wha?" mostly because I remember back in the past that the Professor was a troubled little kid... and he lived in Townsville. Finally I would have to say the special felt rushed. It felt like the tenth anniversary special from 2009. I questioned why they rushed it and not take their time to work on it to make it a longer special. I also find the lack of more villains quite disturbing. Sure Mojo may have been the first enemy they fought when they were created but without cameos from other villains, it didn't feel much like a celebration.
Overall:
The special was great and it had it's moments. Still it remained almost exactly to the original... almost. If there would be a chance to see the special once again, I would say yes. It is a Powerpuff Girls special episode afterall. There is no harm in seeing more than once. To end this review I will give Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed a 3.5 out of 5.
